1TVPAC disagrees with ROV decision on eligibility of Komrosky for TVUSD Trustee Area 4 seat

TEMECULA (Thursday, June 27, 2024) — In a statement provided to multiple organizations, Elizabeth Florer, Public Information Officer, Riverside County Registrar of Voters (ROV) wrote:

"Pertaining to your question regarding if Mr. Komrosky could run in the Special Election our statement is below:

The candidate can run based on our analysis of recently revised election law. The current law does not block a candidate from running in a special election to fill their vacancy."

One Temecula Valley PAC (1TVPAC) disagrees with this analysis, and thinks it violates the spirit of the law — although as written, the current scenario here in Temecula isn’t accounted for in the language and should have been.

Unfortunately, revisions to the law regarding this are so poorly written, we believe they violate the spirit of what was intended and should be rectified on behalf of the voters. The law was clear less than three years ago when recall elections had the recall and replace vote on the same ballot; the recalled candidate could not run to replace himself. This trustee seat election in November is a special election to replace a recalled candidate for the remainder of the current term.

We call upon legislators to rectify this law on behalf of the voters. Hundreds of residents volunteered to work on the effort to Recall Komrosky, and thousands of voters voted Yes on a ballot in a fair election. The ROV analysis runs contrary to the will of the people.

"Voters in Trustee Area 4 voted to recall Komrosky for the remainder of his term that ends in 2026,” Jeff Pack, co-founder of 1TVPAC said. “We are confident that even if he decides to ignore the will of the voters and run again, he will be turned away, and voters will choose a good governance candidate who will serve all students.

“The voters of Trustee Area 4 have spoken, they rejected and recalled Komrosky, and we are confident voters will ensure Komrosky doesn't return to the seat in November, especially because he is running on a legal technicality."
