One Temecula Valley PAC official statements regarding the resignations of TVUSD’s Gonzalez, and Temecula City Council’s Brown

TEMECULA (Friday, Dec. 15, 2023) — One Temecula Valley PAC (1TVPAC) recognizes and acknowledges the resignation made by Temecula Valley Unified School District Board of Trustee Area 2’s Danny Gonzalez.

Gonzalez’ resignation means the remainder of the board will have to presumably decide whether to accept an appointment or special election to fill the position ahead of the 2024 General Election.

It is expected that the four remaining members of the TVUSD board will decide on a timeline for those events at a meeting early next week.

"The resignation of Danny Gonzalez gives us hope that the board, as a unit, can and will focus on doing the business of the district instead of chasing politically-driven culture war issues that don't benefit students, staff or the community,” One Temecula Valley PAC said. "We have a saying, 'Make Temecula Boring Again,' and it comes from the fact that school board meetings are typically non-eventful, peaceful, and centered on ensuring students have the best educational opportunities available to them.

"The last 11 months have been anything but uneventful, most times contentious, negative, harmful, and detrimental to the goals of TVUSD — and there's a group of three people responsible for that — Komrosky, Wiersma, and Gonzalez."

The continued chaos, instability, and financial irresponsibility brought to TVUSD by Komrosky, Wiersma, and Gonzalez almost immediately upon their swearing in last December, will almost certainly be dampened by the loss of a true majority on the board.

That being said, 1TVPAC is committed to holding poor performing elected officials accountable for bad governance.

Last week 1TVPAC and members of the community submitted 5,274 signatures in favor of sending TVUSD Board President Joe Komrosky to the ballot on a special election to recall the sitting board president.

Once verified by the Riverside County Registrar of Voters (ROV) as having enough signatures to qualify, the TVUSD board or ROV will set the date of the special election deciding whether Komrosky should keep his seat or not.

“We are supremely confident that we have the signatures to get Komrosky’s recall on the ballot, due to the tireless work of our volunteers that worked day and night to ensure each signature was valid,” 1TVPAC said. “We are grateful to the hundreds of volunteers who gave their time walking through the community, being subjected at times to abuse, and still educating voters on the damage these three board members are doing to TVUSD and our community as a whole.”

Upon learning of Gonzalez’ intention to leave Temecula and move out of state months ago, 1TVPAC made the decision to consolidate efforts into obtaining the signatures of Komrosky before pursuing Wiersma.

“We have well over 1,000 signatures each for Wiersma and Gonzalez from people walking up to our signing locations,” 1TVPAC said. “The time change, weather and a variety of factors contributed to us deciding to focus on Komrosky exclusively and we’re glad we did that.

“In the end, it turned out to be a prudent move from a financial and practical standpoint.

“With Gonzalez vacating and Komrosky likely sent to a special election for removal — we feel good about replacing them with competent, responsible members of the community that will continue to build upon the stellar school district TVUSD was before these three were unleashed upon it.”

1TVPAC accepts and understands Temecula City District 1 Councilmember Curtis Brown’s resignation from the position to focus on his efforts as a Federal Coordinating Officer for FEMA, currently deployed in Maui for the Lahaina disaster recovery.

“Councilmember Brown is a big loss to the City of Temecula and was an important representative for his District 1 community,” 1TVPAC said. “The level-headed stability he brought to the council will be missed, but we are confident a suitable replacement will either be appointed to the council seat or will be elected in a special election.

“Albeit short, Brown’s steady contributions to the council — focused on the best interests of all the stakeholders of Temecula — is very much appreciated and sets the standard for the expectations we have for future elected city council members.

“1TVPAC wishes both Gonzalez and Brown well in their future endeavors. The decision to resign is a difficult one for any elected official and we trust they made the decision that is best for them and their families.”
